Kazakhstani researchers have teamed up with American colleagues to study and promote traditional Kazakh crafts. The primary goal of this initiative is to present the rich cultural heritage of Kazakhstan at the prestigious Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 2027.

The traditional art of Kazakh embroidery holds a special place in the project. Textile master and researcher Azhar Altynsaka shared insights into the uniqueness, fine details, and artistic value of this craft.

The strategic partner and sponsor of this large-scale cultural initiative is JSC "Samruk-Kazyna" through its sole charity operator, the "Samruk-Kazyna Trust" Foundation. The project is implemented by Kazakhstani specialists in collaboration with @musicunbound_kz.

Key Stages of Collaboration:

  • Professional Exchange: The project includes joint research, site visits, and professional exchanges between experts from both countries.

  • August Delegation Visit: From August 17 to 26, an eight-member U.S. delegation—comprising curators, researchers, and musicians—visited Almaty. The guests immersed themselves in Kazakhstan's traditional crafts and musical heritage.

  • Ongoing Partnership: This marked the second visit of American specialists to Kazakhstan, following the initial research phase held in May 2026.

The cooperation will continue into 2027. Both parties plan to launch joint initiatives focused on preserving, studying, and internationally promoting Kazakh cultural heritage.
